I grew up with computers. For as long as I can remember, my dad built computers for his friends as a hobby (and to finance his own PC habit). At first I was more interested in games - Jumpman for the Apple IIc, Hardball III on DOS, and then Red Alert for Windows. Eventually I found myself wanting to create something of my own.
That was when my sister and I discovered Geocities. Our early efforts were crude (to say the least), but we quickly gained experience and some basic skills.
After several years as a hobbyist, I discovered phpBB while looking for forum software to install on a website. After tinkering with the templating feature, I began to develop and distribute free phpBB skins. Before long, my templates were in use on tens of thousands of websites! Because all of my skins contained a text link to my portfolio, the sheer quantity of incoming links made me the top result on Google for a search of "Nick" - even ahead of Nickelodeon!
It was at this point that I created Vereor.com. Vereor offered the free skins, more complex paid skins, and custom web design. Through Vereor I met Jan Visser of EyesOnSales.com, who hired me to redesign his forum. He liked my work so much that I stayed on as the web developer for EyesOnSales, where I began to hone my programming skills.
Vereor.com continued to operate as my portfolio for several years. Before I moved to Toronto to begin studying music, I sold Vereor to help pay for my education. During music school, my devotion to studying trombone occupied the bulk of my time (although I continued to design and develop websites as much as possible).
Since finishing music school, I have found balance as a freelance trombonist and web designer. I'm always looking for new projects to work on. Why not get in touch so I can get your project on wheels!
